X-Men: Apocalypse had quite a few easter eggs hidden throughout the movie and call outs to other characters from X-Men canon including mutant superstar Dazzler.

In the film, which takes place in the 80’s, Cyclops, Jean, Nightcrawler and Jubilee all go to the mall in a scene which was cut from the theatrical release of the film. There, they go to a record store and pick up a copy of Dazzler’s album Sounds of Light and Fury. Around the time the movie was being filmed, there were rumors that Taylor Swift would be playing the mutant singer and X-Man because of photos she had taken with members of the cast and the screenwriter Simon Kinberg.

With Kinberg directing the follow-up sequel X-Men: Dark Phoenix, EW has confirmed that the character Dazzler will appear in the film, stating “Dazzler will pop up but only in a small role and there is no plan at the moment to have Swift play her.”

Dazzler, whose real name is Alison Blaire, was created by Tom DeFalco, Louise Simonson, Roger Stern and John Romita Jr. She made her first appearance in Uncanny X-Men #130 in February of 1980. Besides being a very accomplished singer and actress, Dazzler has the mutant ability to convert sound into light beams of various intensity and form.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is expected to be released November 2, 2018.
