The clock has reached its final seconds and the day is finally here, REBIRTH is upon us and its going to fix everything. DC Rebirth #1 begins to right the wrongs of the New 52 and does so using a fan favorite we thought lost forever. Geoff Johns dramatically pulls Wally West back in the fray as our conduit to Rebirth. The issue is mostly spent reintroducing us to Wally, and the ghosts of DC past as Wally acts as the forgotten fan out to fix DC’s mistakes but also help us remember the past, learn to let it go and look forward to the future.

Rebirth is a bold idea that leads to some very strange and interesting places, but with Geoff Johns pulling the strings I think we can rest assured that at least for now its in good hands. Johns tells a beautiful and deep story in DC Rebirth #1, as we venture through different stages in Wally’s quest to be remembered. Within the chapters Lost, Legacy, Love and Life, Johns takes us on a heart felt, tragic but ultimately hopeful story designed to reinvigorate the DC fan is all of us.

DC and Johns are taking some giant risks with DC Rebirth as it is building to something that is no doubt conversational and possibly taboo in the minds of comic book fans but if anyone can do it right and with reverence its Geoff Johns.

As always with DC’s major events the art is simply gorgeous. In Rebirth we get a different art team in each chapter, the differences are subtle but appropriate to story they are telling in their particular chapter. Gary Frank, Ethan Van Sciver, Ivan Reis, Phil Jimenez and teams work together to bring beautiful bold lines and colors to a DC universe that is begging to be fun again. Everything about the art is striking and further injects the point that this Rebirth is a return to form for not only DC’s heroes but the comic book publisher as a whole.

DC Rebirth #1 is a warm, heartfelt apology to fans for the mistakes of erasing everything we loved. And while they acknowledge they made a mistake and are looking to right it, Johns and crew also look to the future and ask us to forgive, accept and move on. DC Rebirth #1 is the perfect comic for new and old fans alike, just like the master he is Johns expertly sinks in his hooks, reels us all back in and just like that we are 10 again, wide eyed and excited for the next adventure.

At an early age I knew I loved two things more than anything else Comic Books and Video Games and no matter how hard my parents tried they couldn't keep me away from the capes and pixels. Now that I have a wife and child of my own I can't wait to share these vast worlds and experiences with them and hopefully you! With GWW I created and become editor of the comics section, which has now become the websites most popular area and features daily post with unique Comic editorials, reviews and previews. Along with Will Elizondo we started the GWW Capes Crew podcast. A weekly show dedicated to to all things Comics, Superheros and Sequential Art. After a year of creating content for GWW I was made its Editor in Chief. I love everything I do and can't think of a better way to spend my time than to spread every form of geekery to every corner of the globe. Comics will all be my passion though and were my heart lies.
