‘Deadpool 2’ Will Shoot Early Next Year; Releasing In March 2018?

Jun 24, 2016

X-Men franchise producer and writer Simon Kinberg was at the Saturn Awards and on the red carpet answered some questions about upcoming projects from Collider.

The subject of Deadpool 2 came up and Kinberg gave a bit of an update, revealing they’re getting a script soon from writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese with the hope to begin production early next year.

“The guys Wernick and Reese are working on the script, and we hope to have a script soon. Well we shoot the movie sometime early next year.”

A release date hasn’t been confirmed, but Ryan Reynolds and director Tim Miller are said to be returning.

It’s sounding like if the film shoots in early 2017, that it could easily land a 2018 release date. It’s more than likely taking The Predator‘s (another big R-rated action flick) old release spot of March 2nd, 2018. The date had been recently switched over to an untitled X-Men film with The Predator moving to February.

Cable has been confirmed for the film with Tim Miller teasing an X-23 fight scene (more than likely apart of Wolverine 3) and a recent rumor suggesting Domino would play a big role in the sequel as well.

It’s interesting that Deadpool 2 could be potentially shooting in early 2017, as it had been rumored that John Boone’s New Mutants would be shooting around that same time. I have to assume that the June 2018 spot is going to New Mutants.
