‘Deadpool’ Nabs $260 Million Globally; Biggest Domestic Opening For Fox and R-Rated Films

Feb 15, 2016

The trades had originally pegged the domestic opening weekend for Deadpool around $60-80 million, that was increased to $115 million, but it’s now estimated for $135 million. Almost double the projected opening numbers from a couple weeks ago.

This has given the film the largest domestic opening for an X-Men, demolishing the previous record held by X-Men: The Last Stand, eclipsing that opening by over $30 million. It’s worldwide total coming in around to $260 million. Considering the film was made for $58 million, Fox is already way in the black when it comes to the film being profitable. When the dust settles the film could end-up one of the more profitable Fox movies, not just X-Men movies.

The Hollywood Reporter also included a bunch of other records the R-rated film has broken, including having the largest domestic opening for any Fox movie beating Revenge of The Sith’s $108.4 million and largest domestic opening for an R-rated film which was held by Matrix: Reloaded at $91.8 million. Here’s a little perspective, Avatar’s opening was only $77 million.
