British outlet HeyUGuys was able to speak with Deadpool screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, this was before the news hit that sequel had been greenlit by Fox. The pair revealed that Cable is indeed going to be a key character in the sequel, something we’ve been hearing from everyone involved in the film.
“Yes, absolutely. I think those are characters who are near and dear to Deadpool fan’s hearts and characters we would like to explore down the line if we’re so fortunate to have sequels. Cable is one that we will absolutely visit if we’re allowed to keep moving forward with multiple movies. We’ve always wanted to honour the fans first, so the fan’s favourite characters, that mean a lot to them, we will take a long, hard look at moving forward.”
Paul Wernick added their desire to work on getting an X-Force movie together. Ryan Reynolds recently called the project a “priority” for him, but it’s currently without a script after Jeff Wadlow’s draft has been tossed-out. Rhett previously revealing to us on Twitter, he’d be game for it.
“Absolutely. Getting in to more of an ensemble piece is something we would cherish. X-Force is beloved and we love it, and Deadpool is centric to that world, and we’d love to bring an X-Force movie into the X Universe.”
I’m still under the impression is that the writers could end-up having access to including the entire X-Force lineup for the Deadpool sequel. I’ve heard that the idea has been thrown around about introducing the rest of the team in the film. What that lineup will be is up in the air, as it’s unlikely anyone will be beheld to that leaked lineup in Wadlow’s incarnation from two years ago. I’m sure producer Simon Kinberg, Ryan, Tim Miller, and the writers are figuring that out at the moment.
I have my fingers crossed that former Apocalypse candidate and Hugh Jackman’s choice to play Wolverine, Tom Hardy (Mad Max: Fury Road, The Revenant, Inception, Dark Knight Rises), ends-up playing Cable. I’d also like to see former Prometheus lead/Dark Knight Rises Catwoman candidate Gemma Arterton (Alice Creed, take the Domino role.
Tim Miller has hinted to adding Laura Kinney aka X-23, and there have been some hints that Olivia Munn’s Psylocke could make a crossover.
They add that sequel won’t be ready for a 2017 release, which is obvious as they haven’t even started writing the damn thing. I assume they’ll start production in early 2017 with a possible February 2018 release date.
