Deathstroke Actor Joe Manganiello Teases What To Expect From Ben Affleck’s ‘The Batman’

Nov 8, 2016

We’ve all by now heard the rumours spouted by novelist Brett Easton Ellis on how Ben Affleck ‘s solo Batman movie was having serious problems with its script.

The American Psycho author claimed to hear from his aunt’s, cats, dogs, lawyer… (it was actually via executives who knew other executives ‘supposedly’ working on the film) that Warner Bros didn’t care about the problems because the film would make a “tonne of money”. Ellis eventually backtracked on his comments, but it left a bad taste around the highly anticipated Batman movie.

Someone in the know about the film is actor Joe Manganiello, who’ll play villain Deathstroke in Ben Affleck’s The Batman. He recently spoke with the Mark Madden Podcast about the films story and how Affleck is approaching it.

“When I met Ben we sat down and we talked about, you know, the role. We talked about the movie. His take is a fresh take but I think the audience is going to be surprised. Because it’s a road that no one’s really gone down that’s completely integral to, you know, who Batman is. And I think it’s gonna be refreshing but at the same time completely familiar. But it’s going to take this franchise in a direction that I think a lot of people are going to be really happy about. It’s going to be gritty and action packed and cerebral and all of those elements that people love about Batman.”

Ben Affleck is one hell of a director (writer and actor), you just got to watch Gone Baby Gone, The Town or Argo (which he won an Academy award for) and you’ll see his talent shine through.

Manganiello knows this, and the actor touched upon Affleck’s stellar work over the last few years.

“Ben’s a great director, man. I mean the last movie that man directed won best picture. He’s got an Oscar for writing. Like, this is all the components to go down as a… everything is lined up for a really really really great movie. Not only a superhero movie but just a great great movie.”

Filming is set to begin next year on The Batman and I have the utmost faith in Affleck. I’m excited to see his vision for the caped crusader.
