‘Detective Pikachu’ Assembles Crew Before Production Begins Later This Month

Legendary Pictures is looking to start filming their first live-action Pokemon film with Detective Pikachu (aka Gumshoe) about to begin soon.

The film will be directed by Rob Letterman (Goosebumps) with a script from Nicole Perlman (Captain Marvel, Guardians of The Galaxy) and Alex Hirsch is expected to begin filming in London on January 15th and could wrap on May 11th.

It currently stars Justice Smith, Kathryn Newton, and Ryan Reynolds (as the voice of Pikachu).

Omega Underground has learned some of the key members of the film’s production team that Legendary and Letterman has put together. They include production designer Nigel Phelps (World War Z, Troy, Pirates 5, The Island), visual effects supervisor Erik Nordby (Goosebumps, Passengers), and stunt coordinator Mark Henson (Vikings, Sherlock Holmes, Tomb Raider).

Universal Pictures has given the film the release date of May 10th, 2019.
