While we got confirmation from Deadpool 2 director David Leitch during CinemaCon that Brad Pitt did enter talks for the Cable role. He ultimately couldn’t do it and it seems Michael Shannon is the next big name in the mix. Leitch also praised the character actor in a separate interview.
Well, David Gorder, one of the many producers on the X-Men franchise has seemingly confirmed that at the very least Shannon is indeed the frontrunner to play Cable. We could also assume from this tweet that Shannon might have actually landed the role.
We’ve come to believe that Ryan Reynolds would be making the official announcement on his Twitter account, so it would seem that Gorder has jumped the gun a bit.

Deadpool 2 begins filming this June in Vancouver with an expected release in 2018.
