Yesterday, it was revealed that Straight Outta Compton director F. Gary Gray was one of the four finalists to direct the next installment of the Fast & Furious franchise. Well, just mere hours later it was confirmed that the director will take over the reigns from directors Justin Lin and James Wan. Both who have rejuvenated the films from being a boring car racing franchise to a full fledged multi-billion dollar heist franchise. This also means Universal maybe keeping F. Gary Gray in-house after his success on Straight Outta Compton.
Unfortunately, for many of you who wanted The Italian Job & Law Abiding Citizen director to helm Marvel’s Black Panther may be out of luck. While yes; the two films are over a year apart and theoretically the director could do one then the other. It seems highly unlikely. As many point out at Universal the director can do personal projects that simply Marvel Studios can’t provide directors.
