‘Doc Savage’ Role Seemingly Confirmed By Dwayne Johnson

May 16, 2016

Doc Savage is one of the last great comic book characters to be adapted and writer-director Shane Black, who is developing the film recently mentioned that Dwayne Johnson should take the lead.

Doc Savage is sort of in the ether now. We’re hoping to make it sometime next year. I would very much like to do Doc with a fellow named Dwayne Johnson if we can make that work. I made a decision that Dwayne is the guy. It’s on the back burner while he’s busy.

Dwayne Johnson is a busy dude with Baywatch, Fast 8Jumanji, Rampage, San Andreas 2, Jungle Cruise, Shazam! and possibly a role in G.I. Joe 3. However, some projects are just too good to pass-up, and it looks like he has confirmed taking the lead in Shane Black’s Doc Savage, which could begin shooting later next year.

A recent Instagram post seemingly backs this up with Johnson confirming working on a Shane Black project in 2017. This excludes The Predator since the film shoots this fall, sorry Predator fans. Dwayne is taking to his social media accounts to announce news for his projects and likely is more of an official thing than just a tease.

Clark “Doc” Savage Jr. is one of the great pulp icons of the ’30s and ’40s, whose various adventures and exploits eventually spilled out of his own magazine and into comic books, novels, and radio plays. He’s very much a relic of another age, a near-perfect hero who makes Superman look lazy. He’s a scientist, explorer, and physician, capable of inventing wild gadgets and punching his way out of any tight spots. Known as “the man of bronze,” he’s a musclebound martial artist and a literal genius.
