Dominic Cooper Will Lead ‘Preacher’ Series From Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg

Apr 10, 2015

The Wrap reports that British actor Dominic Cooper (Captain America: The First Avenger, Agent Carter, Warcraft) is finalizing a deal to play the lead role of Jesse Custer in AMC’s Preacher series. The show is of course based on the wildly popular dark comic book of the same name focusing on Jesse Custer, a conflicted preacher in a small Texas town who is able to influence people after after he merges with a heavenly creature.

Comedic duo Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg will be handling the series as writers and producers, the pair are best known for writing films such as Superbad and Pineapple Express. They moved-on to become directors on The Interview and This Is The End, the latter seemingly having more in-common with the Preacher comics. Their dark sense of humor and love for the source material should end-up giving us one of the more odd comic to screen adaptations.

A couple of actors have already been added to the lineup which includes Ruth Negga (Misfits, World War Z) playing Custer’s girlfriend and co-lead Tulip, Ruth just also happens to be dating Cooper in real life. Along with Joseph Gilgun (Misfits, Lockout) as an Irish vampire named Cassidy, Lucy Griffiths (Robin Hood, True Blood) as Emily, and newcomer Ian Colletti as Arseface.

Seth Rogen actually tweeted out a while back they had locked-in Jesse, so it sounds like Cooper indeed has had the role for a while now.
