Donnie Yen To Take Down Hong Kong Triads In ‘Sleeping Dogs’

Donnie Yen has been making badass action movies since the 80’s but it’s only now that Hollywood is recognizing the Chinese superstar’s massive talent putting him in box office hits like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and xXx: The Return of Xander Cage.

Deadline reports that Fast and The Furious producer Neal H. Moritz is looking to make a feature film based on the video game Sleeping Dogs. Placing Donnie Yen in the leading role of an uncover cop trying to take down Hong Kong’s brutal Triad gangs, his first heroic main leading role in a Hollywood film.

The game is a mix of Hong Kong action films meets Grand Theft Auto which could make for a more interesting video game adaptation, as it’s influences are coming from existing films like the John Woo library and Infernal Affairs (remade as The Departed). It’s sequel Sleeping Dogs 2: Triad Wars has been in-development for years and if successful I’m sure the film could be turned into a franchise for Yen.
