“Intruders” or “Shut In” as it was originally called is an enjoyable ride of ups and downs, with a story line that will have the hairs on your arm stand up during the best scenes. This film goes from being a heartfelt bizarre drama to a grown-ups version of “Home Alone.” The writers of this film (T.J. Cimfel and David White) take your emotions on a whirlwind and then slam them to the ground with a huge shocker mid-way through the film that will leave your stomach feeling a little bit queasy. Not queasy as in a lot of blood is spilled but more in the shocking revelation that comes to light in this film.

We meet Anna (Beth Riesgraf) as she is doing her daily routine of taking care of her brother Conrad (Timothy T. McKinney) who has pancreatic cancer. There is a very strange connection between these two. One minute they are fond of each other and the next she is enraged at him. This part of the movie is very slow and strange so hang in there, it will all come together soon. Once Conrad succumbs to the cancer Anna has no idea what to do next. She has a huge house that is all hers and nowhere to go. I mean that literally since she is an agoraphobic. She has not been out of the house in a very long time. She decides to go out for the first time so she can attend the funeral services of her brother, but panic strikes and she stays home instead. This is where the film starts to really get going and all the suspense comes to a head and the action starts. Three men decide to rob the house knowing she will be at her brother’s funeral. When they are surprised to find her home a great chase scene occurs throughout the home, with Anna of course having the upper hand. Some great twists and turns start to take place with an a gradual reveal as to why she is a such a recluse.

Beth Riesgraf does an excellent and believable job as Anna. You can see it in her eyes when she finally snaps out of the poor me routine and makes a turn to the hard nose person she becomes. Of course there is a great explanation as to why and how she becomes such a bad ass but I will not ruin the movie for you.

Take a minute out of your hectic and busy life in this bustling world and watch Anna’s hectic life. I am sure you will be glad you did.
