‘Dune’ Casting: Javier Bardem In Talks to Join Star-Studded Ensemble

Feb 1, 2019

Yet another A-List actor is in negotiations to join the stacked cast of Legendary’s ‘Dune’ remake.

If the deal closes, Bardem will play Stilgar, the leader of the Fremen, nomadic tribes of Arrakis. They are opposite Paul Atreides (Timothee Chalamet), the son of the ruler of the family. Further, Stilgar is forced to escape into the desert wastelands and partner with its tribes.

Bardem was recently in the 2017 films ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales,’ and ‘Mother!’ from Darren Aronofsky.

Moreover, the remaining cast and their roles, if all deals close:

  • Oscar Isaac as Duke Leto Atreides
  • Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica Atreides
  • Stellan Skarsgard as Baron Harkonnen
  • Dave Bautista as the Baron’s nephew Rabban Harkonnen
  • Charlotte Rampling as Reverend Mother Mohiam
  • Zendaya as Chani

The premise is below:

“The complex story of a fallen noble family’s attempt to control a desert planet named Arrakis and its export, a rare spice drug, even as it is betrayed by a galactic emperor.”

Denis Villeneuve’s reboot of Frank Herbert’s ‘Dune’ will begin filming this March. As a result, they will shoot in Budapest, Hungary, at Origo Films Studios and various parts of Jordan. In fact, Origo Films Studios marks a return for Villeneuve, who made ‘Blade Runner 2049’ there.

The screenplay is by Villeneuve, Eric Roth (‘Forrest Gump,’ ‘A Star is Born’) and Jon Spaihts (‘Prometheus,’ ‘Doctor Strange’).

However, Legendary has yet to officially give the film a release date.
