After word came out that Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Rupert Wyatt was exiting the upcoming X-Men spin-off movie Gambit; many fans became worried. Then news dropped that production would be delayed several months and the budget was well over bloated which also let to Wyatt’s exit. The hunt for a new director was on if the studio wanted to meet the October 2016 release date. Now star Channing Tatum may have found his new director.
According to The Hollywood Reporter The Bourne Identity and Edge of Tomorrow director Doug Liman has entered final negotiations to helm the X-Men project. After multiple meetings (as early as Thursday) the studio feels quite confident in Liman. This comes off meeting other directors like Joe Cornish, Shane Black and F. Gary Gray at one point.
So far the only casting announced is 21 Jump Street star Channing Tatum as Remy LeBeau and Mission Impossible: Rouge Nation star Lea Seydoux as Bella Donna Boudreaux. It’s be speculated but not confirmed that Mr. Sinister (who has strong ties to Gambit & Apocalypse in the comics) will be the main antagonist for the film. A character Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston has expressed interest in playing.
Gambit is still scheduled to hit October 7th, 2016
