‘Equalizer 2’ Will Begin Shooting Next September; Fuqua Likely Returning To Direct

Sep 22, 2016

During a Q&A with Collider’s Frosty, Magnificent Seven producer Todd Black confirmed that Equalizer 2 has a completed script from writer Richard Wenk and will begin production next September with Denzel Washington reprising the lead role.

The script is done. We start shooting right after Labor Day, maybe right before Labor Day depending on Denzel’s schedule. So Equalizer 2 will start shooting in September of next year, maybe earlier depending on another movie that we’re shooting with Denzel before that. We’re going to do a little bit more work and we’re going to go into casting right after that for his nemesis.

While not entirely confirming that director Antonine Fuqua is a lock to return, Black gave the impression it’s likely.

Yeah! He better!

The first film looked great and had some excellent action beats. But, I wasn’t a big fan of it spending most of it’s time spent in a generic version of Home Depot. I really want them to write some better settings for the sequel.

Considering Sony is desperate for some hits, they might want to piggyback on the current popularity/anticipation of the John Wick films. Possibly, taking more of an action driven angle for it’s sequel.
