‘Escape Plan 2’ Starts Shooting This March; Locations Include Ohio and China

Feb 12, 2017

I think a lot of us were shocked when it was revealed that Sly Stallone agreed to return to make a sequel to the prison flick Escape Plan which didn’t exactly make much money domestically.

It did end up earning $137 million globally on a budget of $50 million.

Production is moving ahead sooner than we thought. Omega Underground has spotted new production information on the sequel that lists the production start date as March 20th. Not only that, production might be taking place in the state of Ohio along with scenes shot in China.

Deadline recently reported the sequel would be co-financed by China’s Leomus Pictures. This could explain a push to have the film shot partially in China as mentioned by The Hollywood Reporter.

Escape Plan 2 is expected to feature some Chinese story elements to deepen its local resonance, Leomus said.

Expendables 4 is also expected to shoot in China too.

Ray Breslin is the world’s foremost authority on structural security. After analyzing every high-security prison and learning a vast array of survival skills so he can design escape-proof prisons, his skills are put to the test. He’s framed and incarcerated in a master prison he designed himself. He needs to escape and find the person who put him behind bars.

Director Steven C. Miller is set for the pic and is best known for directing Bruce Willis in his recent string of smaller action films that include Extraction, Marauders, and the yet to be released First Kill.

They are also hoping to coax Arnold Schwarzenegger to reprise his role as the foul-mouthed Rottmeyer.

However, if Arnold did return to the role it could be in direct conflict with the shooting of Shane Black’s The Predator and his return as the special forces soldier Dutch.

A possible winter or spring release in 2018 sounds about right to us.
