Ewan McGregor Still Wants To Make A ‘Kenobi’ Standalone, Teases A Two-Parter

Oct 16, 2016

Ewan McGregor has been voicing his desire to return to the Obi Wan Kenobi role for a standalone. There are some fresh quotes from Ewan concerning his interest and unsurprisingly he still wants to make it.

screen-shot-2016-10-16-at-7-17-44-amWhile speaking with French outlet Premiere (via Den of Geek), McGregor keeps sweet-talking fans about his interest in playing Kenobi in a two-part anthology film.

“It would be fun to film that story now I’m older,” McEwan explained, “I’d be the right age. I’m forty-five, Alec Guinness was what, sixty? I could do two of them (laughs)!”

“I hope that they’re going to explore different genres under the Star Wars banner. And one of those could be an Obi-Wan Kenobi feature film. Or two! The Obi-Wan Kenobi Story Part 1 and Part 2!”

Lucasfilm knows his intentions, as they’re quite aware Ewan’s openness towards reprising the role. Keep in mind, he recently did some voice work on The Force Awakes. He also spoke about a standalone movie back in the spring.

Here are some quotes from April via Collider.

“I’d very much like to do one too, I think between episode three and episode four there’s a story there, that’s the Obi Wan Kenobi movie if there is one. Sort of the one that bridges my Obi Wan Kenobi and Alec Guinness’ Obi Wan Kenobi.”

“Cause there’s like what twenty years, I don’t know how long he’s in the desert but there’s got to be like twenty or thirty years.”

“To play Obi Wan Kenobi again would be something I would love to do in one of those spin-off movies. If that was to happen in their [new] trilogy I’d be up for that, but I don’t know how that would happen.”

“Well I want to do it, so there we are.”

Future anthology films include a Boba Fett standalone on the horizon and there’s been rumors of Han Solo sequels. So, we’ll have to wait and see if they’ll green light a couple of Kenobi films any time soon.

We suspect that the studio will also be pursuing Episodes 10-12 as well, if they keep earning two billion a piece.

As a fan, I’d prefer Lucasfilm would attack a Lord of The Rings level Old Republic trilogy, severing ties with the original trilogy and attempting to expand upon the mythology and setting it in entirely different Star Wars era.
