Exclusive: Like its sibling series ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi,’ the Disney+ and Star Wars show ‘Cassian Andor’ will see its production pushed back following more script issues.
The series was set to begin filming June, but that start date has been removed from the calendar and a new one has yet to be set. However, just a week ago, Diego Luna, who plays the titular character, stated filming will begin this year. And above all else, keep in mind that it is **not dead.**
Announced in November 2018 with Stephen Schiff as showrunner and Jared Bush as pilot writer, the show quietly went comatose while work began on ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi.’ Then, ‘Rogue One’ screenwriter and reshoot director Tony Gilroy stepped in and breathed new life into the series, to write a new pilot and direct multiple episodes.
Now, it seems, more script issues have surfaced, which does not look good for its June start date. When ‘Kenobi’ faced script issues, Lucasfilm pushed production back five months (it will now roll cameras in January).
Alan Tudyk will also be reprising his role as K2-SO, from ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.’ No premiere date for the show has been set.
So far, ‘The Mandalorian’ is the only live-action ‘Star Wars’ series that has been able to get off the ground. Season one aired in November 2019, and filming on season two is currently underway for an October 2020 premiere. Jon Favreau serves as showrunner and Pedro Pascal stars.
