Exclusive: Marvel hasn’t shut down completely due the pandemic.
The studio has been taking virtual meetings with various actors, writers, and directors over the past weeks, and one of those people is none other than John Krasinski.
Krasinski and Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige have both said they’d love to work together, and it seems that’s now closer to happening than ever before. While I’m not sure of the role he’d take in the MCU, whether it be that of a director, writer, or actor, I do know they discussed a multitude of projects during their meeting. As far as I’m aware, this is the first time they’ve formally met, but Krasinski is not currently in talks for any MCU project.
From this point forward, everything is pure speculation unless otherwise noted.
A few weeks ago, I mentioned on Twitter that Marvel was starting to take meetings with writers for ‘Young Avengers,’ and last week I got definite confirmation that the project has entered that phase of development. Now, while it is unlikely, it isn’t impossible that Krasinski discussed this during his meeting with Marvel. It’s still unclear if ‘Young Avengers’ would be a Disney+ series or a movie, but Krasinski fits this project for a couple of reasons. His two directorial features, ‘A Quiet Place’ and a ‘A Quiet Place Part II,’ both feature heavy sci-fi elements and kids as the lead characters. Not only that, but it’s not hard to see Krasinski as Kang, an older version of Iron Lad and the Young Avengers’ first real villain.
Another possibility is ‘Fantastic 4’, a film which Krasinski has long been a fan favorite to direct and star in. The film is also in early development, and if Feige wanted to pull another surprise actor-before-everything announcement, this would be a good way to do it. This would not be out of place for the studio, which announced Brie Larson as Captain Marvel long before the solo film had a director, as well as Mahershala Ali as Blade at San Diego Comic-Con last year. It’s unlikely the film will hit the big screen before 2023 at the moment.
