Extensive Reshoots for ‘Justice League’ Are Getting Complicated and Expensive

Jul 24, 2017

The process of reshoots on big budget movies is becoming a common occurrence now and it doesn’t necessarily mean a movie will be good or bad. However, the reshoots for Justice League are causing other issues for Warner Bros. and DC. It’s starting to get very expensive for the studio and the stars scheduling is becoming more difficult as they all move onto different projects.

Variety reports that the studio is spending upwards of $25 million on extensive reshoots that have taken up to two months. The nature of a superhero flick like Justice League requires a large ensemble cast of actors and that can cause real issues if the movie requires reshoots after it has wrapped filming.

Ben Affleck and Gal Gadot are thought to be easy to accommodate because they are’t working on any other projects during the scheduled reshoots. However, Ezra Miller and Henry Cavill are thought to be struggling to fit the reshoots into their schedule with Miller working on the Fantastic Beasts sequel and Cavill working on Mission Impossible 6.

Ezra Miller has a larger role in the sequel to Fantastic Beasts but Variety’s sources indicate that because it is also a Warner Bros. property scheduling is easier for him whereas Henry Cavill has grown a mustache for Mission Impossible 6 and the reshoots mean he is suiting up for Justice League with a super-moustache as he jumps back and forth between the two projects. The moustache will have to be digitally removed in post-production as a result because Mission Impossible 6 would not allow him to shave it off.

Variety’s sources claim that the reshoots are being used to “punch up the dialogue” and Joss Whedon was called in especially for that job because he is “well respected” in creating “memorably wry exchanges between his characters”. Variety continues on to say that Snyder’s set pieces are “usable” and Whedon has focused on the ‘connective tissue’ to link up the different scenes.

Justice League is scheduled for a November 17th, 2017 release.
