‘Eye In The Sky’ Director Gavin Hood Reviving British Spy Thriller ‘Official Secrets’

Jan 23, 2018

Back in early 2016, Deadline reported that Justin Chadwick (Tulip Fever) would be directing a feature adaptation of the novel The Spy Who Tried To Stop A War by Marcia and Thomas Mitchell titled Official Secrets with a script penned by Sara and Gregory Bernstein.

They added that Natalie Dormer (Game of Thrones), Paul Bettany (Avengers: Infinity War), Martin Freeman (Sherlock), Anthony Hopkins (Silence of The Lambs), and Harrison Ford (Clear and Present Danger) would be part of the cast.

In the run-up to the 2003 Iraq invasion, Katharine Gun (Dormer), a young British intelligence officer, reveals a secret illegal NSA spy operation against the UN Security Council designed to ensure passage of a resolution for war to Martin Bright (Bettany), a reporter at The London Observer. Her arrest following the leak makes headlines around the world, and in an attempt to gain the evidence to free Katharine, Martin unearths a shocking plot that puts both of their lives in jeopardy.

Variety also reported that Gillian Anderson (American Gods, X-Files) was joining the film too.

Have you seen this:
Michael Keaton and Robert Pattinson will be WB's Batmen

For whatever reason, the project stalled and there hasn’t been an update in while.

Omega Underground has learned Oscar-winning director Gavin Hood (Eye In The Sky) has seemingly replaced Justin Chadwick and the spy thriller is expected to shoot from February to April in the UK.

There’s a good chance the cast will mostly stay the same as Dormer, Bettany, and Freeman have clear schedules at the moment.
