We know a handful of details about New Line Cinema’s Shazam movie. The Rock will star as the films villian (maybe anti-hero) Black Adam, the role of Billy Batson/Shazam hasn’t been cast yet, it’s still part of Warner Bros DC Extended Universe as New Line is a subsidiary of Warner Bros and its set for release in April 2019.
Shazam tells the story of William ‘Billy’ Batson, a foster kid who is granted the powers of becoming a champion by Mamaragan, a Wizard. Whenever Billy says the words “Shazam” he is struck by a magical thunderbolt turning him into an adult with the powers and abilities of Solomon, Hercules, Atlas, Zeus, Achilles, and Mercury, transforming him into Magic’s Champion and the World’s Mightiest Mortal, Shazam!
With The Rock playing the villain Black Adam, casting will soon look at the up-and-coming talents in Hollywood to play Billy Batson as well as his adult form in Shazam. Gabriel Bateman is an American actor, who’s appeared in a two major horror films in the last few years. He has the ability to go into pretty dark places, especially with his last two roles in Outcast and Lights Out. That’s something Billy would have to do, especially with the film dealing with loss of Billy’s parents.
