‘Fifth Element’ Director Luc Besson Returning To Hardcore Sci-Fi With ‘Valerian’; Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne Star

May 12, 2015

Hollywood Reporter has word from Cannes that Luc Besson has finally put together the deal for his next feature film. He’ll be adapting the science fiction novel/graphic novel Valerian as it’s screenwriter and director, with Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne set to star as the leads.

Focuses on a space and time-traveling agent from a futuristic Earth.

This could be a Luc Besson’s sci-fi franchise in the making and given how amazing The Fifth Element turned-out, we can all assume it won’t be a trainwreck like Jupiter Ascending was. Besson dipped his toes back into the science fiction genre with Lucy, but it’s surroundings were still modern. The expectation is that this project could be just as elaborate if not more than Element.

Valerian will begin production later this year with an expected summer 2017 release.

UPDATE: Luc Besson has revealed the first promo poster/logo for the film via his Twitter account.
