Wow, this is definitely a casting surprise that I don’t think any geek, nerd, or fan-person was expecting as Comingsoon.net reports Vanessa Hudgens will star in the upcoming NBC, DC Comics sitcom, Powerless. We can assume Vanessa Hudgens was chosen not only her star power and beauty but for the acclaim recognition she is getting after her Grease: Live performance. This casting could be a leap for the young actress as we have yet to see her bust out the comedy chops. Her past film work in Spring Breakers and Sucker Punch was pretty much devoid of humor so this could really go either way.

Not only is this Hudgens first real comedic work it is also DC’s, as you know their material tends to lean more heavily on a darker tone. DC has always been on the more serious side of things so Powerless is definitely something new for everyone involved. Taking place within the DC Universe, Powerless will focus on an insurance company that handles claims involving superheroes. The series will be executive produced by Ben Queen and is described as The Office in the DCU. Don’t expect to see Batman, Superman or Wonder Woman show up, instead you will experience the day to day life of a normal person living in a world full of superheros and villains, its and intriguing concept not yet explored beyond the pages of comics.

As always only time will tell if Powerless will be any good or not, but from this casting we can’t really make heads or tails of anything. Hudgens is no doubt a star but is she someone whom comic fans and general audience will like or find funny. We would love to hear what you think, let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

At an early age I knew I loved two things more than anything else Comic Books and Video Games and no matter how hard my parents tried they couldn't keep me away from the capes and pixels. Now that I have a wife and child of my own I can't wait to share these vast worlds and experiences with them and hopefully you! With GWW I created and become editor of the comics section, which has now become the websites most popular area and features daily post with unique Comic editorials, reviews and previews. Along with Will Elizondo we started the GWW Capes Crew podcast. A weekly show dedicated to to all things Comics, Superheros and Sequential Art. After a year of creating content for GWW I was made its Editor in Chief. I love everything I do and can't think of a better way to spend my time than to spread every form of geekery to every corner of the globe. Comics will all be my passion though and were my heart lies.
