Fox Teases Another R-Rated Action Flick On The Way With Shane Black’s ‘The Predator’

Feb 16, 2016

Deadpool has become one of the most successful R-rated films ever made, with an increased estimated domestic opening weekend of around $150 million, and a worldwide total of $282 million. It broke a bunch of box office records at Fox as well, and might help light a fire to quickly greenlit their stable of R-rated action films that are in development.

Fox has a string of other R-rated action projects in the works including Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant, which might be the first of a new trilogy about to start shooting soon.

They were developing Alien 5 with writer-director Neill Blomkamp, but the project was placed on hold to allow Ridley creative freedom on Covenant without having conflicts with Blomkamp’s Alien 5 script. I’ve heard the studio very much wants to finalize the Ripley Saga with Neill’s fifth installment with Sigourney Weaver reprising the iconic role, sooner rather than later.

Another big R-rated project is a new Predator film which is being toted as a soft-reboot/direct sequel to the original film according to producer John Davis. It’s script penned by Shane Black (Iron Man 3, Lethal Weapon, The Nice Guys) and Fred (Monster Squad) was completed and handed-in last year, and there is expectation that Shane Black would direct it. Shane had originally been brought-in to write his own version of the first film by producer Joel Silver, but instead of his script getting used was offered a supporting role in the film instead.

Shane is currently working on the release of 70’s crime comedy The Nice Guys, and would likely be able to tackle another film soon. Well, the official Predator Facebook page posted the image below with a ominous quote from Black’s Iron Man 3, referring to the Mandarin’s statement “You’ll never see me coming”. It also potentially reveals the title to be The Predator.

Does this mean Fox will announce the film has been greenlit and reveal the release date soon?
