FX’s ‘Shogun’ Reboot Lands ‘Gunpowder’ Creator Ronan Bennett – Shoots This This Fall

Apr 5, 2018

FX Network and DNA Films partnered on a revival of the 1980s mini-series Shogun and we have an update on the project based on the 1975 novel written by James Clavell.

An English navigator becomes both a player and pawn in the complex political games in feudal Japan.

Omega Underground has learned that they’ve tapped Gunpowder creator Ronan Bennett (Public Enemies) to write and produce the series.

Casting seems to be the next big step.

The three principal roles in the series include British trader/adventurer John Blackthorne, feudal Lord Toranaga aiming to rule Japan with military might, and Lady Mariko, a Catholic convert who has conflicting loyalties between church and Japan.

It’s expected to begin filming sometime in September.

FX has yet to give the new series an air date.
