Godzilla is king of the monsters and might end-up king of the box office as well, as Warner Bros. has announce release dates for his next two movies via The Wrap.
Gareth Edwards is returning to direct Godzilla 2 which has a new release date of March 22nd, 2019, pushed back almost an entire year from it’s original date. No word currently on casting, but I hope to hell they keep Aaron Johnson away from this sequel.
Edwards recently wrapped Rogue One: A Star Wars Story for Lucasfilm, so there might be a lot more expectations for him to give us a bigger vision with his sequel.
Godzilla vs. King Kong has been given the official date of May 29th, 2020. Warner Bros. and Legendary have yet to announce who will direct their big kaiju crossover film.
Legendary’s Kong: Skull Island starring Tom Hiddleston and Brie Larson, is a reboot of sorts set in the 1970’s and will be out on March 10th, 2017.
Toho, who owns the Godzilla rights will also release a new Japanese installment of the beloved franchise this summer with Godzilla Resurgence. Taking more of a serious tone than we’ve seen in more recent films in the series. It’s being co-directed by the creator of Neon Genesis Evangelion Hideaki Anno and the director of the Attack On Titan films Shinji Higuchi.
