Writer-director Guillmero del Toro spoke to IGN while promoting his series The Strain and gave an update concerning his own DC Comics film Justice League Dark. He reveals he’s just given the studio a revised script and mentions if he can make time for it could direct it, but if it doesn’t workout someone else will.
“We turned in our [script] revision, and it all depends on the calendar, you know?”
“If I can do it, I would love to do it. And I think the screenplay and the characters are very solid.”
“You cannot say, ‘Yeah, I’ll do it after I do this,’ or ‘I have the first season of The Strain,'” said the filmmaker. “[Justice League Dark] needs to fall into the plan of the DC Universe.”
Warner Bros. has yet to greenlight the film as it’s not apart of their official slate of films.
Cara Delevingne‘s Enchantress in Suicide Squad could easily be the character to setup Justice League Dark in the DCCU.
The film is expected to include characters such as Swamp Thing, Deadman, The Spectre, Constantine, Zatanna, and Jack Kirby’s Etrigan The Demon as mentioned previously by del Toro. Half of the lineup could support their own films mainly the Alan Moore‘s (Watchmen, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, V for Vendetta) run on Swamp Thing.
Guillermo is set to direct Pacific Rim 2 next and there’s already chatter of it leading into a third movie, but nothing says that could happen directly afterwards. His other film the haunt house homage Crimson Peak is coming out in October 2016.
