Gunslinger Spawn #2 is exactly what you’d want from a Spawn book. A whole lot of action, which also happens to drive the larger story’s plot.

Gunslinger Spawn #2 pretty much only takes place in one location, essentially staying in the same location as the series-opening issue. But readers may remember, Todd McFarlane left everyone expecting a Brett Booth-illustrated fight. Well, the pair delivered. And Booth didn’t just provide an intense fight — McFarlane let him run wild.
That escalated violence only enhances the ramifications of the fight, too. Gunslinger made things personal. So, as messy as things got in Gunslinger Spawn #2, you have to imagine things will only get worse when Heaven’s forces return.
Now, another reason the action has such an impact on the plot is not much else happens this issue. But that’s OK. There’s still a clear direction, and going at a different pace from the main Spawn line and Sean Lewis’ King Spawn is a good way to separate the series from the Spawn titles.
McFarlane can go in pretty much whatever direction he wants following the events of Gunslinger Spawn. The characters who survived Gunslinger Spawn will certainly cross his path again, but it’s unclear if that’ll be soon or not, which isn’t a bad thing. McFarlane could just leave the first two issues as a series warm-up as he shifts into another gear, or he could continue with this promising storyline.

Summary
