Thanos #13-18 “Thanos Wins” (2018)

Casey (EIC): Donny Cates and Geoff Shaw’s “Thanos Wins” is why I read comics. I’ve been following these two through the comic book ranks since their debut on Buzzkill and seeing Cates and Shaw come together for such an epic telling of the final days for Marvel’s greatest villain was everything I could hoped for these two and the fact that it was a smash hit with fans and created may the next great character (Cosmic Ghost Rider) was just icing on the cake.
If you only read one book this year, it’s got to be “Thanos Wins.” You will get everything you love about the Marvel universe, nestled in a heartbreaking tale of a villain who has finally gotten almost everything he wants and now the only thing left for him is death. Cates goes balls out with “Thanos Wins” and you will love every minute of it.
Batman: White Knight

Nick: In a year that saw the start of Heroes in Crisis and Doomsday Clock, as well as the end of Dark Knights: Metal, there was one conclusion to a major event that stood above the rest: Batman: White Knight #8.
Both Sean Murphy’s writing and artwork are captivating. From the jump, this was an amazing ride, but the ending was perfectly done. Batman saves the Joker. Jack Napier goes down as a hero even though he’s forced to revert back to the Joker. Finding out Harley Quinn—the real one—was the one to set the pieces in motion, to help Gotham. Batman reveals to Jim Gordon that he’s Bruce Wayne. It’s a non-stop thrill-ride (and that’s not even factoring in the action) of chaos—the type that’s a bit different from the norm in a Batman story.
Cosmic Ghost Rider

Kristel: Clearly, Donny Cates has been the VIP of comic book writers this year in my eyes. Cosmic Ghost rider was one of the most creative, off the wall and insane stories I’ve read EVER… It’ll be continuing into Guardians of the Galaxy #1.
RUNNER UP – Venom was almost too close to call. The twist tie into Thor alone makes it worth reading!
Gideon Falls

Dusty Good: The biggest surprise for me was Image’s Falls. The first graphic novel titled “The Black Barn” was a twisted and terrifying as any other offering for 2018. Written by the uber-talented Jeff Lemire and illustrated by the equally talented Andrea Sorrentino; this series draws the reader into the supernatural happenings in a rural town called Gideon Falls. Following disgraced Catholic priest, Father Wilfred the readers are introduced to a bizarre world where nothing is as it seems and every plot twist only serves to ramp up the anticipation of the following chapter. Not to be read in the dark!
RUNNER-UP: Harley Quinn
Brian: My pick for the best comic fo 2018 is Gideon Falls by Jeff Lemire and Andrea Sorrentino. Its blend of horror and suspense left me in a state of bewilderment and intrigue. It has become one of the comics that whenever a new issue comes out, it automatically goes to the top of my pile.
Justice League Dark

Dave: The initial reveal of he line-up illicited some groans among fans but boy did Tynion make it work. True bang for your buck as the scripts fill you like a full meal. Plus outstanding visuals and of course, Swamp Thing.

Ivy: Saga continues to bring an incredible story with all of it’s great characters while never being afraid to hit you in the heart.
Scarlet
Jinx World

Lee: A powerhouse collaboration from two of the best at what they do. Scarlet was a much needed look at resistance in a time our society needed it.
