Habbo Hotel has been around for more than two decades, for more than two decades, and now it’s making a nostalgic comeback with Habbo Hotel: Origins on Steam. If you grew up spending hours decorating your pixel room, trading rares, or hanging out in public spaces like the Café or the Theatre, this release probably hit you right in the feels. It’s one of the best platforms to meet new friends online back in the day.
It’s a low-maintenance game (well, depending on what you’re doing in the hotel) that you can play while on streaming services or even while playing Roblox.
Two Ways to Play Habbo
There are actually two ways to play Habbo — the modern version and the classic version. The modern version is the one you can play on your browser or mobile. It’s more updated, has new features, and looks cleaner and smoother. You don’t need to download anything when you use the browser version, but on mobile, you need to download the app. Just make sure to download via WiFi or before you leave the house so you won’t blame Habbo when your mobile wireless service caps its data.
The classic version, on the other hand, needs to be downloaded through the Habbo Launcher. This one gives off that old-school Habbo vibe with the original look, pixel graphics, and nostalgic interface. This is still the best way to play this in my own opinion. The modern version is also getting a lot of hate because there are lots of bugs here and there, but it’s still under development, so it will still improve in the future.
Habbo Hotel: Origins on Steam
Now, Origins can be played on Steam, making it even easier for players to access the classic Habbo experience. It’s basically the same as the old Habbo, but smoother and more stable since it runs through Steam. I’ve played both Origins and .com, so I wouldn’t say one is completely better than the other. It really depends on what kind of experience you want. Here are some of the reasons to play it or skip it:
Play it when…
- You miss the old Habbo.
If you’ve been playing Habbo since the early 2000s, you’ll love Origins so much. It’s literally the same as the old Habbo. The interface, the furni, the sound, and everything else. It’s like logging in after school again, meeting your friends in the Café, or just sitting in your room chatting for hours.
- You like simple and chill gameplay.
Origins is very laid-back. You can just decorate your room, chat with people, and explore without feeling lost or pressured. It’s the same easygoing Habbo we used to enjoy. No need for complicated wireds and gameplays. In Origins, you just do your own thing. You can talk to others, trade furniture or rares, watch movies on streaming services while designing your room, and more.
- You enjoy collecting old rares.
Old rares are still available on .com, but if you want to have that same freedom and feeling of collecting and trading rares, you will have a lot of fun on Origins.
Skip it when…
- You prefer complex games and roleplaying.
If you want to do more, .com is a better fit for you because it’s way more advanced and there are also more people playing. You can play the classic games like Falling Furniture, Heaven or Hell, Cozzie Change, and Trivia (GAW, GMW, WC, Maths, etc.). Also, .com has a lot of agencies where you can roleplay and other events that make the community more engaged.
- You want an easier and more modern user interface.
I mean, I’ll be honest, Origins can be a bit challenging if you’re used to the modern version. The buttons are smaller, the layout feels tighter, and you can’t just move around as smoothly as in the updated Habbo. It really sticks to the old design, which can be confusing at first if you didn’t grow up with it. So if you prefer something that looks cleaner, faster, and easier to navigate, I recommend .com over Origins.
What’s Your Decision? Play It or Skip It?
For me, I’d skip it since I now enjoy what .com or the “modern” version offers. But since we all have our own preferences, you’d be better off trying it out first (if you haven’t), and make the decision based on what you feel or experience. Happy playing!
