‘Hamilton’ Creator Lin-Manuel Miranda In Talks For Lead Role In ‘Mary Poppins’ Sequel

Feb 24, 2016

It’s looking like Disney is really making a legit musical with their Mary Poppins sequel.

Variety reports that Emmy winning singer Lin-Mauel Miranda from the musical Hamilton, which he also created, is in talks to take a role alongside Emily Blunt. He’s being eyed to play Jack, a lamplighting character that would resemble Dick Van Dyke’s Bert from the original film.

Miranda has close connections with Disney after making the song at Maz’s castle in Force Awakens and did the music for the upcoming animated film Monana.

After the teaser dropped for a remake of the Disney musical Pete’s Dragon was void of any singing, it gave us some serious doubts about Poppins, but that has gone away with this potential casting.
