While many stage and screen productions through the years have focused on the accomplishments of Presidents and military leaders, only one man could have made a successful Broadway production (11 Tony Awards and shows sold out until next year) about the 1st Secretary of the US Treasury, Alexander Hamilton.
‘Hamilton‘ creator and Composer Lin Manuel Miranda continues to be extremely busy with his composing duties on the recently released Disney animated film Moana, the upcoming Mary Poppins sequel starring Emily Blunt and the recently announced live-action Little Mermaid remake which will team him with the movies original composer Alan Menken.
Like his show suggests, “there’s a million things he hasn’t done”. Not one to rest on his laurels, Lin Manuel Miranda has signed on as Creative Producer for Lionsgate’s adaptation of the Patrick Rothfuss fantast trilogy The Kingkiller Chronicle. He will be composing the music, writing original songs and has the option of creating a stage show based on the series.
The first film in the series will be based on the first book The Name of the Wind and there will be a companion television series that will expand the universe simultaneously. Miranda and Rothfuss will be creating new characters and storylines for that show.
Miranda is apparently a huge fan of the trilogy himself and says “It’s a world you want to spend lifetimes in, as his many fans will attest. Pat also writes about the act of MAKING music more beautifully than any novelist I’ve ever read.”
The Kingkiller Chronicle tells the fictional story of Kvothe, a musician and adventure so famous that his life is being chronicled for posterity by a young scribe who has escaped from creatures plaguing the land. Kvothe tells the stories of his past while forces in his present conspire to revitalize him to help in the current war sweeping across the land. The books change in perspective as Kvothe’s story is told through first person and the story around him in the present is told from different character’s points of view.
No release date has been given and no additional information is available, but we will be keeping an eye on this story for any additional developments. “Just you wait.”
