‘Han Solo’ Shooting In January 2017; Alden Ehrenreich Apart of ‘Rogue One’ Reshoots?

May 31, 2016

Han Solo spin-off film recently hired Hail, Caesar! actor Alden Ehrenreich to play the lead, and it’s co-writer/producer Larry Kasdan just revealed during a Q&A that it’s production is set to begin next January in London, England. The event was held at the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival and Kasdan was given the first Icon Award for Contributions to the Cinematic Arts.

Oh, I think so! You know, Chris Miller and Phil Lord are going to direct it. They’re great, funny and imaginative and we’ve had a great time together. My son [Jon] and I wrote the script and Chris and Phil are working on it and they’re about to move to London to start shooting in January. And it should be fun.

Page Six has some oddball report that Rogue One‘s reshoots this summer are happening because Disney is freaking-out about the direction of the film, which isn’t actually the case (we’ve heard differently). As we’ve been hearing for months that reshoots are taking place to include Han Solo, as they just hired the lead of the film and it takes place around the same timeline as the Solo spin-off.

The first “Star Wars” spinoff, “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,” is in crisis, and the movie will have to go into expensive reshoots over the summer, sources exclusively confirmed to Page Six.

Reshoots aren’t indicative of production problems, as they’ve become common place with big projects, most of the time they’re penciled-into the production schedule and from what we’re heard it’s the case with Rogue One. It’s extremely possible they’re taking place this summer, because of the casting of Han Solo opened the window for the reshoots to include the character.

Rogue One is set for release on December 16th, 2016 and Han Solo‘s release date set for May 25th, 2018.
