An interesting new tidbit revealed in Hasbro’s purchase of Saban properties inlcuding Power Rangers is that they’ve also landed the rights to My Pet Monster.

The toy spawned a horrible straight-to-VHS movie and a wonderful Canadian cartoon series.

In the latter, the monster known simply as Monster is thrown through a portal door from the monster world to Earth and becomes the best friend of a young boy. Monster will eat pretty much anything but perfers garbage.

He moves between a toy monster to real monster with the use of magical orange handcuffs, when cuffed is a plush toy but once unlocked becomes a squeaky voiced real monster.

Most of the adventures involve trying to keep Monster away from the adults (pretty much E.T.) along with Beaster, a fellow monster that keeps trying to bring back Monster to his world but keeps getting foiled.

Its actually a wonderful short-lived cartoon that Paramount might want to consider turning into a movie either animated or live-action.
