Hellbazer #12
DC Comics

So this is the 6th issue in “The Smokeless Fire” storyline. And I’m honestly speechless. So, Constantine finally gets the journal from Dante, only to be immediately confronted by Marid. Marid has Dante’s sister Sam as a hostage, so of course, Dante is upset about this, but Constantine trades his life for Mercury, Sam, Dante and the Journal. And then… Well… I’m not really sure. Is this the end of this arc? I’m not sure. Everything after that was a bit sparse in explanation. I guess we’ll see what happens in the next issue? I’m just walking away from this being a lot more confused and feeling like I’ve wasted my time.

Is there something I’m missing here? Does Constantine possess some powers I’m not familiar with?

The main positive thing I have about this issue is that the art is much better than a lot of the previous issues.

Unfortunately, I don’t think the art can save a book that seems to be overly convoluted at this point. If Hellblazer was on my pull list still, at this point I’d probably ask for it to be taken off.
