‘Hellion’ Actor Josh Wiggins Auditioned For ‘New Mutants’; Possibly Cannonball?

Jun 1, 2017

Omega Underground has uncovered our first audition tape for Josh Boone’s New Mutants.

We previously posted a potential batch for X-Men: Dark Phoenix, this might have revealed that a young Rogue (aka Marie) might be getting a reboot for the film. Unlike with that discovery, it seems like it’s very likely this role isn’t a new to us and most likely for Cannonball.

Young actor Josh Wiggins (Max) posted an audition tape (dated four months ago) clearly labeled New Mutants (along with one for the new season of Stranger Things) over the working title Growing Pains. Watching the tape it suggests the power of uncontrollable flight, a big nod to mutant bullet Cannonball (Chris = Charlie). He skews a little younger at the age of 18.

Josh is somewhat unknown but has some interesting credits which include Hellion co-starring with Aaron Paul, Walking Out with Matt Boomer, Mean Dreams with the late Bill Paxton, and more recently working with J.K. Simmons on The Bachelors. He’s more in the realm of new indie darling like Tye Sheridan was before landing the Scott Summers role.

Stranger Things actor Charlie Heaton is most likely landing the role, but this is a cool what-if and Wiggins could be placed into a different role in the film.

The role of Warlock is still seemingly up for grabs.

New Mutants cast includes confirmed leads Maisie Williams and Anya Taylor-Joy with expected additions of Henry Zaga, Rosario Dawson, and Heaton.

Production on X-Men: The New Mutants will take place this summer in Boston with a release date of April 13th, 2018.
