Director J. A. Bayona “A Monster Calls” is currently in cinemas, earning great reviews and to promote the films release the filmmaker took to Reddit for an AMA (Ask Me Anything) session.
Bayona who is currently hard at work on his next film the untitled “Jurassic World” sequel was asked a few questions about the fifth “Jurassic Park” movie. Before being asked by a fan what his dream film to work on would be.
To many’s surprise the Spanish director replied “Superman” before going on to reminisce about how the 1978 film starring Christopher Reeve’s was the first film he ever saw and how it made him want to be a director.
“The first movie I saw in my life was Superman. I was three years old. The first memory I had was Christopher Reeve flying in the suit. Directing a Superman film would be great. I always wanted to be Superman. That’s the film that made me want to become a director.”
Zack Snyder brought Superman back to the masses with 2013’s “Man of Steel” starring Henry Cavill as the Last Son of Krypton. This was the beginning of the DC Extended Universe as the follow-up film brought Batman and Superman together for the first on the big screen in “Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice“.
Supes will next be seen in Snyder’s “Justice League”, where the character will return from the grave after dying at the hands of Doomsday in “Batman V Superman”.
Last year it was revealed that Warner Bros had put “Man of Steel 2” into active development, with the iconic character being a major priority for the studio as they continue with the DCEU.
As it stands it doesn’t look like Snyder will return to helm the second solo outing for Supes. With Bayona showing interest in directing a Superman film, his name will no doubt be on a shortlist for the next “Man of Steel” movie especially if he nails “Jurassic World 2”.
I’m down for J.A. Bayona talking over the reigns if he gets the opportunity to do so, and by the sounds of fans on Twitter, so are they. What do you all reckon?
