Horror Guru James Wan To Produce ‘Resident Evil’ Reboot

May 22, 2017

We recently learned that Constantin Film will be rebooting the successful but still quality bankrupt Resident Evil film franchise. Yet, today’s is news via Deadline is encourging for fans as horror guru James Wan (Saw, Insidious, Conjuring, Aquaman, Furious 7) will be producing the reboot. While a director hasn’t been chosen.

James Wan has come aboard to produce the first of the Resident Evil reboots from a script by Greg Russo, and we’re hearing and it will have an entirely new cast. Russo wrote Mortal Kombat and Wan is known for producing the box office coups Lights Out, Annabelle and Saw, to name a few.

The Wan brand name is a strong one and should give a boost to the reboot. Also producing are Constantin Film and Michael Clear for Atomic Monster. It has no director aboard as yet, we’re told.

They’ve hired Greg Russo the screenwriter of New Line Cinema’s Mortal Kombat reboot to pen the script. Wan and Russo are also developing a new incarnation of the Robotech movie for Sony.

It’s also alluded to that the cast including Milla’s non-canonical character Alice and Paul W.S. Anderson won’t be involved. Which might mean with Wan’s involvement that the franchise will actually be horror centric.

I’m expecting that they’ll actually return to the series lead Jill Valentine as the main character.
