A new rumor coming from Latino Review is suggesting that yet another Batman rogue will be apart of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. The addition they are mentioning is psychiatrist Hugo Strange. You might recognize the villain from the Arkham City game. He was also once rumored for an appearance in The Dark Knight Rises but never did show-up.
Today’s #SUICIDESQUAD FIRE is all about Jared Leto’s THE JOKER! So what I’m being told, Leto’s Joker is most definitely based on THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS version. He’s lean & scarred but his suit does have broad shoulders. Joker works out in his cell like an inmate when he is interrogated by Amanda Waller. He’s doing hand stand push ups so it makes sense that Jared Leto said he is putting on weight. He’s definitely not skinny, but in fact more muscular. He has bleached skin not make up. #SPOILER - He’s killed one of Batman’s sidekicks, there is a lot of references to his past crimes. He kills a lot of people. HUGE #RUMOR - I’m also told The Joker has a lot of scenes with HUGO STRANGE! He’s the psychiatrist at the prison & seems to be a part of the story yet I heard nothing of casting or mention of a single casting choice. Hugo Strange has quite a few interactions with the Joker & Harley Quinn. It’s not the regular security. It’s internal one on one thing. #THEJOKER #THEDARKKNIGHTRETURNS #JAREDLETO #HUGOSTRANGE #AMANDAWALLER #HARLEYQUINN #DC #DCCU #DCCOMICS #SCOOP #FIRE #BOOM
Strange is one of the more oddball villains as he’s obsessed with Batman to the point of wanting to replace him, learning his secret identity only to torture Bruce Wayne with psychological mind-games. In the film he’ll be acting as The Joker‘s handler at the prison which leads to him having interactions with both him and Harley Quinn. I’m curious if they’ll be exploring Quinzel’s past as a former Arkham psychiatrist.
No casting information has started to circulate concerning Hugo, but I’m sure fans would love to see someone like Jared Harris in the role.
They’re hearing a bit more details concerning Jared Leto‘s Joker and seemingly have also heard that the version we’ll be seeing is indeed influenced by Frank Miller‘s version from The Dark Knight Returns. Adding that his skin will be bleached white, wearing a broad-shouldered suit and will be quite muscular from working out in his cell. The latter we’ve been hearing for weeks and matches what Miller did with both Returns and All Star Batman and Robin.
Speaking of Robin they are also suggesting that Joker’s murderous past will be explained in the film as well.
This sounds like a very strong move on the part of Warner Bros. to really setup Batman’s rogues gallery since we’ll be seeing Joker, Deadshot, Harley Quinn, Deathstroke, and now Hugo Strange. I’m actually curious if they’ll end-up releasing the next solo Batman film a bit sooner than the purposed date of 2020, which I’ve been kind of assuming would happen. Having setup a good chunk of possible threats to Gotham it wouldn’t be too hard to move right into the next Batman solo flick. This all depends on who’ll they end-up hiring to direct and if Ben Affleck is just way too busy to do it.
