IOTA Cooperating with Trademark Africa to Simplify Cross-Border Trade

IOTA Foundation is concluding its first contracts with authorities in Africa through its partnership with trade organization Trademark Africa. The project, called the Trade Logistic Information Pipeline (TLIP), aims to simplify cross-border trade by digitizing the exchange of documents between authorities. TLIP, based on IOTA technology, has been selected by the UK border authorities for a pilot project to improve trade route efficiency. While IOTA faces challenges in becoming a decentralized Tanglenet 2.0 by 2024, its presence in Africa holds promising prospects.

Establishing a Presence in Africa

With the registration of a branch in Abu Dhabi, IOTA Foundation aimed to strengthen its presence in Africa. Since 2020, IOTA has been strategically partnering with Trademark Africa, and their collaboration is starting to yield results. Trademark Africa is now entering into contracts with hygiene authorities to expedite customs clearance on international trade routes.

Trade Logistic Information Pipeline (TLIP)

TLIP is a database developed by IOTA that enables the digital entry and retrieval of documents by authorities. By utilizing IOTA technology, TLIP aims to replace paper-based processes, saving time and money in cross-border trade. The UK border authorities have chosen TLIP for a pilot project, highlighting its potential to streamline trade routes more efficiently.

Africa’s Crypto-Suitability

Africa is seen as a region where the benefits of blockchain solutions, including cryptocurrencies, can be demonstrated. In addition to IOTA, Cardano (ADA) has also been actively involved in Africa, particularly in education, microcredit, and mobile communications. While the success of pilot projects in Africa is yet to be determined, TLIP focuses on documenting and networking companies and authorities involved in trade routes to comply with extensive documentation requirements.

The Prospects for IOTA in Africa

Despite the challenges IOTA faces in decentralizing its Tanglenet 2.0 and managing inflation, its cooperation with Trademark Africa presents promising opportunities in Africa’s cross-border trade. With its selection for the UK pilot project and its strategic partnerships in the region, IOTA is positioned to make a positive impact on trade efficiency. Africa continues to be a crypto-suitable continent, highlighting the potential for future growth and adoption of blockchain solutions.
