Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Pink issue one is the first of a spin-off, six issue series featuring everyone’s favorite pink power ranger Kimberley Hart. This comic has some amazing illustrations and sets up a great story, but as I read on, I found some scenes to lack creativity. The story starts off with us feeling the emptiness Kimberley feels not being a power ranger. She is at a stage in her life wherein she is looking for purpose and puts all her efforts into becoming a successful gymnast. Most importantly, we see Kimberly alone and missing her friends.

In the beginning of the comic, Kimberly decides to not hang out with the other gymnasts after their practice and instead plans to visit her mom and step-dad, whom live in a small, quaint, French town. When Kimberley arrives here, the town is seemingly empty. Suddenly, sea monsters that look like the thing from the black lagoon appear and attack Kimberly. I am thinking to myself, really? Sea men? That idea has been so over-used in the entertainment industry. I would have preferred seeing the town filled with robots or putties.

Cliche villains aside, the comic also lacks a little more back story. Since Kimberley finished high school in Angel Grove and departed the Power Rangers, we see her now in a career in France as a gymnast. We don’t know what happened to her relationship with Tommy. In fact, all we know in issue one is the second generation Mighty Morphin Power Rangers are away fighting Zed’s forces out in Space. Hopefully, later issues we can get some more flashbacks and back story on events leading Kimberly to where she is now.

Some aspects I loved about the some where seeing some Mighty Morphin Power Ranger characters and villains make a cameo. This was really a treat! Kimberley also gets a new Power Ranger suit, which looks great! The leather jack and touch of black to her suit really lets us see a new side of Kimberley.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Pink #1 feels a little short, all though it transitions into the panels for some great pacing. I feel the end of the issue could have given us more content. Instead at the end of the come we get advertisements and a preview of Lumberjanes Gotham Academy. I loved the comic’s illustrations and loved the Power Ranger cameos and the way Kimberley is portrayed. However, without revealing too much, I feel the twist isn’t that shocking or unique. Pink #1 offers us a great glimpse to the lives of one of our favorite Rangers but if you aren’t a fan of the series you may find it lacking.
