Variety first mentioned the summer shoot for Star Wars: Episode IX when it was announced that J.J. Abrams would be replacing Colin Trevorrow on the sequel (after multiple delays). Omega Underground helped reaffirm this possible June start back in December.

Now, J.J. Abrams during an event message has confirmed the summer shoot at D23 Expo Japan.

Other production details slowly started coming out such as the working title of Black Diamond (a nod to Vader’s Castle on Mustafar?) and possibly spending some time filming in Argyll, Scotland.

We’ve also learned that returning crew members include visual effects supervisor Roger Guyett, costume designer Michael Kaplan, and creature shop lead Neal Scanlan. A clear sign pre-production is well underway.

John Williams was officially announced to score the film as well.

Star Wars: Episode IX is set for release on December 20th, 2019.
