A boxer faces a breakdown following a personal tragedy.

The cast includes Jake Gyllenhall, Rachel McAdams, Curtis Jackson, Rita Ora, Forest Whitker, Tyrese Gibson, and Naomie Harris. It’s director is Antoine Fuqua and the script was penned by Sons of Anarchy creator Kurt Sutter.

Oddly enough, Eminem was originally attached for the lead role.

There are some high expectations for Southpaw since it’s Jake’s follow-up to the wildly satisfying thriller Nightcrawler. It seems to be more dramatic focused which is a nice change of pace for Fuqua, who might have been over doing it with action focused features. It looks interesting and there’s a lot to like from this trailer.

Southpaw will be in theatres on July 31st, 2015.
