James Cameron’s ‘Avatar 2’ Begins Filming This August in New Zealand

Feb 4, 2017

James Cameron hasn’t directed a film since his 2009 smash hit Avatar. Which is still one of the highest grossing film of all time next to his other film Titanic. The director has been hard at work writing the sequels which he revealed last year at CinemaCon will include 4 sequels. But he revealed he wouldn’t start filming the sequels until all the scripts were completed on the other films.

While speaking with The Daily Beast the director confirmed he had finished the scripts on all 4 sequels and that filming is expected to begin this summer:

I’ve just finished the script to Avatar 5. I’m now starting the process of active prep. I’ll be working with the actors in the capture volume in August, so I’m booked in production every day between now and then.

We have now also learned that the movies will be filmed in both New Zealand and Manhattan Beach, California (We ourselves had heard that filming will also take place on soundstages in LA) thanks to the guys at My Entertainment World.

Most of the original cast are expected to return including Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang.

Avatar 2 hits December 21st, 2018
