James Franco To Lead X-Men Spinoff ‘Multiple Man’ – Will It Have Other ‘X-Factor’ Members?

Nov 16, 2017

It looks like we have our next X-Men solo film announcement!

Deadline reveals that Fox is now developing a Multiple Man solo film starring James Franco. Simon Kinberg will, of course, produce and they’ve enlisted one of the Wonder Woman screenwriters Allan Heinberg to pen the script.

Jamie Madrox has the ability to clone himself to make multiple copies of himself and has been both criminal and X-Men in the various incarnations of the character. He’s a bit of a wisecracking hero which might be the reasoning behind Franco’s casting here. It wouldn’t be shocking to see the film taking more of a comedic bend.

There had been chatter of an X-Factor TV series being developed which would see Jamie as the lead, but it looks like Fox has other plans for that group of mutant characters. We have to assume those X-Factor members are fair game for this Multiple Man movie. Characters like Strong Guy and Siren feel like a given.

You might remember that Franco was being courted for another Fox franchise role in Shane Black’s The Predator only to turn it down, it seems like the studio had bigger plans for the actor and is now handing him his own X-Men movie. James also recently had a tiny cameo in Alien: Covenant.

Recent rumblings from ThatHashtagShow suggests that Maddox might show up in Gambit in a small supporting role. Gambit is expected to begin shooting next year along with X-Force, Deadpool 3, and an X-23 spinoff in various stages of development. So much for Fox easing down the development of their X-Men slate.
