James Wan In Early Talks To Direct Sony’s ‘Robotech’ Movie

Apr 30, 2015

Deadline has word that Furious 7 director James Wan is currently in early talks with Sony to direct their live-action adaptation of Robotech. Wan’s recent billion dollar success with the seventh installment of the Fast and Furious franchise earning $1.3 billion so far has led to some interesting offers from other studios, he’s been recently linked for Warner Bros’ Aquaman. This isn’t the first time a Furious director has landed a massive science fiction property as Fast 6‘s Justin Lin recently took over the Star Trek franchise from J.J. Abrams with Star Trek 3/Star Trek Beyond.

Based on three different Japanese series and focused on the use of robotic technology found on a crashed alien starship that Earth used to fight off various alien invasions.

Robotech seemingly has a greater allowance for Wan to create his own world, without butting-heads with other people creatively like he would with making a DC Comics film, similar to the horror world he’s been creating with the Conjuring and Insidious movies. 300‘s Michael Gordon is currently developing script with producers, but no word when Sony wants the production to begin. The project has been circling Hollywood for around a decade, so I’m sure fans are hoping it shoots soon.
