Jared Hess and Others On Director Shortlist For ‘Spider-Man’

May 5, 2015

It doesn’t look like Drew Goddard is such a lock to direct Sony/Marvel’s Spider-Man reboot as Deadline reports a director shortlist that includes a new crop of names, which doesn’t include Drew. The new candidates include former Doctor Strange directing contender Jonathan Levine of 50/50 and The Wackness, Ted Melfi the writer-director of St. Vincent, Pitch Perfect‘s Jason Moore, Napoleon Dynamite‘s Jared Hess, along with new Vacation directors John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein.

The plan is the new Spider-Man franchise will focus on three to four films set in each high school year for Peter Parker.

My top pick would be Jared Hess, mainly because I think his characters already feel like they’re apart of a comic book world, and Nacho Libre proved he could make beautiful pop bright film that would fit right alongside something like Guardians of The Galaxy. The bonus would be that his creative partner and wife, Jerusha Hess would also be involved in the picture as the pair co-write their scripts. It really wouldn’t hurt to have a female presence working on the script when they need to write for characters like Aunt May, Mary Jane, Felicia Hardy, Betty Brant, and Gwen Stacy. The pair have also tackled high school characters and wrestling, so that helps a lot.
