Jared Leto Wants To Join The Yakuza In Post-WWII Japan In ‘The Outsider’

Jared Leto is reportedly set to star in the long gestating post-World War II project The Outsider according to The Wrap.

Martin Zandvliet (Land of Mine) will direct from a script by Andrew Baldwin (Bastille Day).

Set in post-WWII Japan and follows an imprisoned American soldier (Leto) who is released with the help of his Yakuza cellmate. Now free, he sets out to earn their respect and repay his debt while navigating the dangerous criminal underworld. 

The project once at Warner Bros. and moved to Universal had actors such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Michael Fassbender and Tom Hardy linked for the lead role. Safe House‘s Daniel Espinosa had originally been tapped to direct.

Jared Leto will be seen next in Suicide Squad this summer and is rumored to be apart of Ben Affleck’s solo Batman movie.
